Shelves/Programs within Falls Hunger Coalition
Feminine Hygiene & Infant products
Thanks to some wonderful women in Koochiching County, the first One Day Period campaign was a success! We are now able to provide feminine products to clients of Falls Hunger Coalition. If you want to make a donation specifically to this cause, please add this to your memo line in your donation.
Diabetes Shelf Stay Tuned! We are working hard to bring a shelf just for clients with Diabetes.
Along with Second Harvest Food Bank, we have setup emergency food pantries in the Falls & Littlefork-Big Falls Schools. These pantries are designed to offer food for students throughout the day or help feed their families in the evenings. Falls Hunger is the fiscal agent for these programs. To make a donation be sure to add which school you would like the donation to go to in the memo line of your check or on a note with your donation.
In late 2012, Falls Hunger Coalition became the distribution and organizational site for NAPS (Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors), a Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Once a month food packages containing nutrient-dense commodity food products are distributed to income eligible seniors (60 years and older) in Koochiching County. We have clients who visit our location to pick up the boxes, and with the help of our many volunteers, we are able to deliver boxes to seniors in our community who are unable to leave their homes.
For more information please contact Ashley Hall at 218-283-8020.
All clients in need of a ride to and from the food shelf are given bus passes at each visit.
Turkey & Ham Vouchers
As an extra way to help with the Holidays FHC distributes Turkey and Ham vouchers which can be used at local grocery stores.
Summer Snack Packs & Summer Meals
Falls Hunger Coalition provides Snack Packs for children on Fridays. These Snack Packs are intended to help feed children over the weekend. Contents may include: canned meals, juice boxes, cold and hot cereal, fruit, crackers, fruit snacks, milk etc. to name a few and are easy items for children to prepare and eat. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend the lunch with their children for $4 a day. Those who are unable to pay are covered by Falls Hunger Coalition.
Falls Hunger is a huge supporter of Community Cafe which is run by the Backus Community Center. These are free meals offered on Tuesdays & Thursday evenings. If Community Café guests would like a meal, please call the office at 285-7225 before 4:00 pm the day of the meal to get on the list. Meals can be picked up between 5:00 and 6:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
